Out and About: With the D.O.P.E. crew

Video, words and photos by David Rouleau

On the mountain today I met a man in the woods, camped out by this wall with a rail on it. I was there on assignment for the site with some of the D.O.P.E crew, but I still hadn't procured a camera for the day's shoot. The man told us his name was Mohammed Lester. Mo for short. He was an interesting cat and he tried to make us all grill cheeses. We weren't hungry. But the warmth from his kind gesture seemed to raise the air temperature and suddenly the ice was ridable for a couple hours. Mo convinced us to join him as he worked on what he told us was his new patented move, "The Molester Plant Cork". It was crazy. He had this old Panasonic Lumix SLR cam that shot HD video and he lent it to me for the afternoon.

It seemed weird to be "filming" with what looked like a photo camera. I felt like I was shooting on an Elph cam. But it was "something" and the magazine had insisted that I "figure it out" and find a camera to start making edits with. I took the opportunity and documented the events of the session. Luckily Mo also had a Macbook with Final Cut that he was powering by poaching a near by power line. Wireless was coming in nicely from the neighboring subdivision, just down slope from us, at the end of the ski out.

E-man dinked around for a bit filming a little something for his up-coming video part while Derek and I shmooped around on our boards. Rob and Crispin documented, and I made and uplaoded my edit before we all went home for chili. Mo stayed in the woods.
